Welcome to the Bio-Blog

 Peter Everts, PhD

Hello, I'm Peter Everts, Chief Scientific Officer of EmCyte Corporation® , and I will frequently post content to the Bio-Blog. This blog will consist of actual theme's in regenerative medicine, using bio-cellular therapies. I will be touching and discussing on observations as they appear in the literature, or in the media, and every now and then I will share with you my personal view on things. Before I get started with the first blog, allow me to introduce myself.

I started my career as a clinical perfusionist in 1981 at the Leiden University in the Netherlands, attracted by the possibilities of extra corporeal circulation technology. During my training, I became interested and exposed to research projects, addressing the specific functions and capabilities of various blood cells. In the mid 90's, I founded the department of Peri-Operative Blood Management at the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, specialized in autologous cell therapy programs, using platelet rich plasma (PRP), fibrin sealants, in cardiac surgery, orthopedic surgical procedures (joint replacement and spinal), plastic reconstructive and vascular surgery, including chronic wound care treatments.

After being actively involved in clinical bio-cellular therapies for more than 10 years, I had the opportunity to become a PhD student at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. After several years of laboratory, animal, and clinical research, I defended successfully my thesis, and received my PhD diploma in 2007 on the subject of PRP basic research and applications in orthopedics. I collected the entire work in a book titled:

"Autologous Platelet-Leukocyte Enriched Gel * Basics and Efficacy*, with the subtitle: "A novel method to support soft tissue and bone healing", (ISBN 13: 978-90-8590-016-0).  If you are interested in this work, I can send you a digital copy.

The following 10 years I was, among several other activities, member of the sport medicine steering group at the International Olympic Committee, discussing the use of PRP therapies in sports medicine. In 2010, I founded the Da Vinci Clinic, expert centers for wound healing, regenerative medicine, and hyperbaric medicine, in the Netherlands, where I held the position as general director and chairman of the Board. Here I organized effective and state of the art chronic wound healing models, including the use of biologics. Fortunately, I was able to continue my scientific activities, leading to various publications in peer-reviewed journals of books.

Finally, as of July 1st, 2017, I'm appointed as EmCyte's Chief Scientific Officer with several great duties, like managing international research projects in which our autologous bio-cellular therapies are being used; develop educational and scientific training modules; collaborate with K.O.L.'s to produce effective clinical biological treatment protocols; being supportive in product development.  Furthermore, I will post on the Bio-Blog, where I hope to meet you, and we can have solid discussions, driven by science.
